The president of Neighborhood Enterprises, Jim Roos, established the company in 1971 soon after his graduation from Concordia Seminary. The office occupied the first floor of his home at 3012 Lafayette from 1972-1984. In July, 1984 the office was moved to its present location at 2752 Lafayette. Jim has received recognition for his commitment to low-income housing by Eden Theological Seminary (1990) and Lutheran Family and Children's Services (1999). In 1990 Neighborhood Enterprises formed Sanctuary in the Ordinary (SITO), a non-profit housing and community development corporation, for whose property NE is the management company. Neighborhood Enteprises manages property primarily in south St. Louis city but has some properties in north city as well. The area of NE's primary activity is just north of Interstate 44 just east of Vandeventer.
affordable housing each year through redevelopment and deterioration, the need for our services only increases.
Neighborhood Enterprises brings 35 years of experience to property management. We specialize in 1-4 family buildings in the low to middle range of the rental market. Buildings managed by Neighborhood Enterprises are usually clean, green, and quiet, a fact to which bankers, city building inspectors, and most neighbors will attest. Several years ago, when it rated all buildings in Lafayette Towne, the city of St. Louis gave high ratings to buildings managed by NE. The Housing Quality Standards of HUD are maintained in all NE-managed buildings. We assume that our tenants and owners want quiet buildings, trimmed grass, clean alleys, working systems, control of pets, acceptable housekeeping, snow removal, and freedom from junk such as abandoned cars. Continuous observation of details such as vent trap covers, guttering, porches, activities of children, alley lighting, condition of trees and grass leads to cumulative improvement of individual buildings and neighborhoods. |
